John Marcus Marcelino Mascarenhas

(7th October 1929 – 1st June 2025)

The Mascarenhas family are deeply saddened to announce the death of John Mascarenhas (“Grandpa” as he was affectionately known), beloved father of Cedric, Karen and (the late) Clifford, doting grandfather to James, Marcus and Luke, loving husband to (the late) Eulalia, and beloved brother to Sr. Paulina, (the late) Philip and (the late) Natty.

John was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth, spanning over three continents, and lasting just shy of a century, was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. His passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. May he be remembered not in his death, but for how his life was lived, and for the profound impact he made. In his kindness and generosity, he silently assisted those in need and voluntarily helped countless more with their affairs well into his twilight years, using his expertise he acquired as a professional accountant. John was considered the patriarch of the family and will be sorely missed for not only his wisdom but also his helpful nature, gentleman-like manner and devotion to his family.

The funeral mass will take place at St Lawrence’s RC Church, 1 Hamilton Road, Sidcup, DA15 7HB,  on 8th July 2025 at 11.00am UK time, followed by a burial service at Sidcup Cemetery at 12.30pm. The family warmly invite you to celebrate John’s life afterwards at St Lawrence’s Church Hall at 1.00pm. For catering purposes, please RSVP attendance to the Wake to johnmasca2@gmail.com by 4th July. A live stream for the funeral mass is available on St Lawrence’s website at https://www.stlsidcup.org/cs_sermons/live-mass/

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Christopher’s Hospice, a charity which John supported, in particular for having provided palliative care for his late son, Clifford. Please visit his tribute page for more details:
